Eliche Radice was founded at the beginning of the last century (in 1919) and the company is still owned today by the Radice family. The company structure in Italy is developed over 50,000 m², of which 15,000 m² is covered, and is made up of around 85 employees. The range of products which Eliche Radice is able to provide includes not only the propellers, but also the different components of the whole propulsion system starting from the gearbox coupling flange to the rudder. Traction or propulsive FPP, for manoeuvring systems, blades and hubs for CCP propellers, propeller shafts and relative brackets, seals, fixed or directional nozzles, hydro lubricated bearings and rudders.

Eliche Radice produces a wide range of water lubricated bearings (bushes) for shafts in centimetres and inches with an exterior sheath in bronze or resin up to a shaft diameter of 205 mm. Water lubricant in addition to being economical, is constantly available and allow us to reduce attrition at low rpm and assure maximum durability. Remember that all models up to a diameter of 125 mm are available in stock.

The bushes have an outer screen that may be made of highest quality brasses, resistant to sea water corrosion and technoplastic resins by polyamides composed by 40% mineral reinforcement.

  • Clear sea water is the best lubricant for rubber bearings; handy, with almost inexistent operating cost. Compared with normal metal bearings, or lignum vitae rubber offers the following advantages:

    • very low friction coefficient
    • high resistance to friction wear, that is very long life
    • avoiding vibrations thanks to rubber resilience
    • very high peripheral speeds, (Table X)
    • high radial loads allowed
    • quick withdrawal of the solid particles suspended in the water, avoiding damages to the bearing areas.

The above mentioned advantages, results in:

    • savings in installation
    • saving in maintenance
    • spare-parts interchangeability.

  • Resin bearings have the following major advantages:

    • neutralizing the electrolytic corrosion problems
    • less weight
    • less cost.

The inner side of the bearings is lined by soft nitrile black rubber without sulphour with the followings characteristics:

    • density = 1.23
    • hardness = 70/75 shore
    • U.T.S. = 22MPA
    • ultimate elongation = 225%
    • compression set = 13.5% (after 22 hours at 70°C in the air).
